Above are picture of my parents that my dad took. Some of you know that I grew up with a photographer dad.
I’m sharing these images from my dad’s archives for posterity, as an homage to my dad… and because it’s my birthday. :)
I’m not sure that I really enjoyed having my picture taken as a kid, but looking back, I really cherish these images.

Just a quick note to say that I’m alive and that I have a ton of posts coming. Yikes. I was supposed to write and mention that I would be gone for two weeks, but now I’m back and writing to mention that I was gone for two weeks.
Anyway, I have 2 sessions to post plus a bunch of pictures to from my time in Guam and Palau to share. Ooh… do you feel that antipation build? :P

Some of you might know this already, but I used to do a little bit of design for a small start-up outdoorsy t-shirt company called Kinetic So.Cal. Anyway, things didn’t work out with the company and it closed, but I still have some shirts that I designed that I’m trying to get rid of. Let me know if you want one [email me: daniel (a) danielchinphotography (dot) com]! They’re free, except I do ask for $5 to cover shipping costs if you want it shipped.
The light colored ones are women’s shirts made from organic cotton. I only have them in Small and Medium.
The gray ones are men’s made from regular cotton. I only have Mediums for those.
The designs are printed on American Apparel t-shirts, so they are made in Los Angeles, sweat-shop free.

If you are not using RSS, you’ve probably already noticed that I’ve reskinned my blog. I’m just letting you know that it’s not just the blog that’s gotten a fresh new layer of paint – my entire site has gotten a bit of a freshening up. I’ve actually been going live with one section at a time, and the client area isn’t quite done yet, so please excuse the growing pains there.
However, my portfolio section has been updated. Here’s a screen-capture of my new splash page (make sure to refresh your cache so the new page loads if you have recently loaded the site).

Did y’all miss me?! I haven’t posted in awhile because I was in Las Vegas all last week, and got back yesterday. For a city as modern as Las Vegas, they aren’t very generous with internet connectivity… plus with everything going on, I didn’t really get a chance to stop and blog. Anyway, so there are a few things coming up that I will be trying to blog about, but I’ll just start with this.
There is a big convention held by Wedding & Portrait Photographers Int’l (WPPI) every year in Vegas around this time. There happens to be a 16×20 print competition each year that photographers from all over the world submit for scoring. Prints that score above 80 points receive an Award of Excellence get hung in this really cool gallery for people to walk through and see a lot of great work from a lot of different photographers around the world. Two of my prints made the gallery, and it was incredibly humbling to see my work hung next to amazing artists and pioneers such as Joe Bussink, Marcus Bell, Jerry Ghionis and Jesh De Rox. I really want to just thank my clients who let me do this kind of work.
Here are my two prints that won 2008 WPPI Awards of Excellence:

So yes, I am now on Facebook. And no, I don’t have a clue as to what to do on it… although it is strangely affirming to be accepted as a friend by people I assumed were my friends to begin with…

It’s been awhile since I posted… again. hmm… I find myself saying that quite often. If you are actually following this blog, you know that my new site is sort of rolling out, but I’m still working on integrating a new client page and a splash page to direct people to the new portfolio site, or the blog, or the client area. Be patient! I promise, it’s all going to work out with some tweaks probably happening for the next few months.
