Back in July, Jeannie and I left for Thailand to experience Bangkok and scuba dive in Koh Tao. Bangkok is an amazing, modern, hospitable city. We stayed at an incredible hotel with immaculate concierge service and of course, ate some intensely flavorful foods. On one of the days in Bangkok, we wandered our way through a complicated network of Thai-only street signs (if there were any street signs at all) on our search for a place that has been making mango with sweet-rice for 70 years. We arrived to find coconut milk on the stove, mango vendor right outside the shop, and one of the most beautiful foods I have seen or eaten out of styrofoam box.
Koh Tao is a place where you walk around barefoot and forget that you own a computer. Electricity is spotty anyway, so electronics become mostly paper-weights anyway. It took me all of 5 minutes to adjust to this pace of life. Beach front view, open breeze, sitting out just reading, watching, breathing, living. The wild dogs that live on the beach would just come lay by our feet as we sat on the beach or on the porch in front of our room.
